Body Piercing Guide
| The Body Piercing Guide.
As with a tattoo apprenticeship, the best way to learn how to pierce properly is from an experienced piercer. So the best way to find an apprenticeship is to look around your local tattoo and piercing studios and have a chat with the studio owners to see if there would be a chance for you to get some sort of training there. Another good way to find an apprenticeship is to use google and search for tattoo related forums and blogs, these are great places to comment and get advice from. |

| Hang around your local piercing studio as much as possible, do some free work like making coffees, sweeping the floor, answering the phone. Ask if you can sit in on piercings and help out when cleaning and disinfecting afterwards, always keep a keen attitude and display your interest in piercing. Chances are if you get on well with the other staff in the studio and you show an interest in learning, you will get your apprenticeship. For the first few weeks you will learn about sterilization and how to keep your tools free from any kind of contamination, this is extremely important! You should be able to watch over other piercers doing their work to give you a better idea of how it works. When you eventually start to do some piercing yourself you should be closely watched by an experienced piercer. A piercing apprenticeship will usually last for 3 years.
When looking for an piercing apprenticeship be very careful as there are some people that will try and rip you off by charging ridiculous amounts of money for a DVD course or up to $500 for a 1 day course. If your serious about learning how to pierce properly then you will need to have a mentor to watch over and guide you as you learn. There are no short cuts so don’t be fouled by these rip off merchants. You can find piercing supplies very cheaply online, places like E-bay and Amazon offer very cheap piercing beginner kits that almost anyone can afford. Be careful when buying cheap kits online as some will be very poorly built and you could injure yourself or someone else using them. Look for a piercing kit that has genuine positive reviews from other buyers or better yet, find a supplier in your local area. Piercings are becoming more and more popular these days so, its a great time to get involved. Just make sure it is something you really want to do by going and bugging your local piercing studio. I’m sure one of them will have some free work for you to do for them, maybe offer to paint their studio Hopefully this body piercing guide has anwsered some of your questions. |
