| The first step to finding a piercing apprenticeship actually starts with yourself as before you decide to pursue piercing full time you need to make sure you are in it for the right reasons and that you have what it takes to successfully transition from a piercing apprentice to a full fledged piercer. In order for you to become a licensed body piercer, you will need to know about more than just where to stick needles. You are going to have to learn about the human anatomy from the way various body parts react to piercing, to the anatomy of the largest organ of the human body-the skin. It will be necessary for you to learn about sterilization methods and precautions and let’s not forget that you need to possess some actual talent as well. Once you have decided that you have a vested interest in becoming a body piercer, it’s time to take the next step- piercing apprenticeship.
The first step in the process of becoming a piercing apprentice is to find an actual location to complete your piercing apprenticeship at. Don’t be afraid to visit the local piercing parlors and talk to the owners and inquire about a potential apprenticeship. Although they might not literally have a sign up stating they are looking for apprentices, you never know if they are just waiting for someone to walk through the door and take the initiative to ask. While looking for a piercing apprenticeship, go out of your way to take a few extra steps such as learning about blood born pathogens, human anatomy, etc… as this will make the apprenticeship go faster and will likely impress whoever you are wanting to apprentice under. When talking to shop owners, be honest about your skill level and piercing education background. There is nothing worse than lying about your qualifications only to fail to live up to the expectations you just set for yourself. This could lead to piercing parlors refusing to accept you or dropping you from your piercing apprenticeship. This is no different than filling out a resume for employment so treat it as such. Make sure to follow up with people you have contacted as this shows them that you are serious about your piercing apprenticeship and aren’t going to disappear or lose interest soon. It might take you some time to find the perfect fit for you but it is definitely worth it as the proper apprenticeship can lead to a fulfilling career and once you have taken out the time to find the perfect place for you to learn how to become a body piercer you are on the fast track to success. |
