Tattoo Licence
| There is a right and wrong way to get into tattooing, buying yourself a cheap tattoo kit from e-bay and tattooing your friends or family is the wrong way and can lead to prosecution or even worse infection to your host. There are procedures you have to take before touching anybody’s skin like learning basic hygiene measures, getting a blood test and making sure the person knows its permanent. | |
| Unlicensed home-made tattoo artists have a very bad reputation with professional artists as they have to continually fix their work and it gives tattooing a very bad name. These people are usually referred to as scratchers. As these scratchers are not regulated it is common for them to tattoo the under aged and they will not normally have the proper cleaning and sterilization equipment.
Most places will require you to have a tattoo licence before you can start to tattoo. This will usually include a blood test and some hygiene training but, this will vary depending on where you live. You can find online applications with some areas and the price will vary greatly. Ask at your local government office on how and where to apply. If you are found tattooing without a licence the consequences can be huge, your equipment may be confiscated and you may end up with a huge fine, not to mention the angry customers and bad reputation you will build up without the proper training. If you are serious about tattooing and have a passion for art, do it the right way and get the proper training and tattoo licence. You will find it a lot harder to find quality tattoo supplies without a valid licence as most good tattoo suppliers will insist on seeing it before they sale you any equipment. This helps to prevent a scratcher from getting their required equipment and reduces the amount of bad work being done. A scratcher without the correct sterilization equipment or worst no sterilization equipment is very dangerous and gives the tattoo profession a bad name. The best way to get into tattooing is to start a tattoo apprenticeship and learn for a few years from a professional artist, do you really want to be responsible for someone regretting what you did to them for the rest of their lives, getting into serious trouble with the law or even worst killing somebody for using contaminated equipment? Please be responsible and get yourself trained and licensed. |
